Kevin and I personally do not get the flu shot or any shots for that matter and neither of us has had so much as a sniffle. To be completely honest, I can not even remember the last time I had a cold or the flu and ask anyone in my family, I have an amazing memory! However, that does not mean that we do not take the appropriate precautions to insure that our immune systems are functioning optimally, especially during cold and flu season.
1. Eat a well-balanced, healthy, anti-inflammatory diet
A large portion of the immune system resides in the gut, therefore if your gut is damaged or you consistently suffer from indigestion, your body will naturally use its additional resources to digest food and repair the gut instead of being able to use that energy to fully ward off nasty infections. Therefore, the next time you get heartburn, flatulence, or bloating after a meal, don’t ignore it, put it off, and do it again, instead consider this a sign that your gut and ultimately your immune system is trying to warn you that something is off. Starting an elimination diet can be a good way to determine what foods work best for you and maybe which ones you should stay away from until your gut has had a chance to properly heal. If determining what you should and shouldn’t eat is too overwhelming for you to do on your own, then you can always seek the professional advice of a holistic practitioner or someone or who specializes in BIE food sensitivity testing. If you are constantly getting sick it can be as easy as what you are or aren’t putting in your mouth. So don’t ignore poor digestion because there is so much more at play than just feeling uncomfortable for several hours after a meal.
2. Take at least 1,000-3,000mg of Lypospheric Vitamin C regularly or up to 6,000 mg when you feel something coming on
1,000 mg every hour up to 6 hours (1) if you are going to be around someone else who is sick. Unlike other vitamin C supplements, this vitamin C is highly absorbable due to its patented delivery system and is much more potent than standard vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties which if absorbed efficiently by the body, can boost all tissue and body repair, immune function, decrease virus replication, increase metabolism, endurance, and energy. Vitamin C in itself helps to ward off the common cold and flu virus while also helping to speed recovery from various types of infections and injuries. Vitamin C is often attributed to its role as an antioxidant. However, it is much more than that. No other antioxidant can perform the many additional physiological and biological roles that vitamin C fills.
Vitamin C
Supports a healthy immune system & reduces the risk for chronic degenerative diseases
Helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals from exposure to toxins and pollutants
Powerful “antioxidant” in the blood and cellular tissues throughout the body and is vital for the maintenance of good health.
Helps neutralize oxidative stress
An important aid in the development and maintenance of bones, cartilage, teeth, and gums
The Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C that we carry has also been shown to increase skin firmness and reduce fine lines and wrinkles in as little as 4 weeks, Bonus! If you are interested in purchasing this product please contact us at thehealinghandsduo@gmail.com or you can shop this product HERE.
3. Taking a little bit of oil of oregano might also be helpful at this time of the year or you can try red pine needle oil
If you know you are going to come in contact with someone who might be coming down with a virus. Oil of oregano has been our go-to natural antibiotic for years and P73 by North American Herb & Spice is by far our favorite line to turn to when we think we might be coming down with something. Oregano has a multitude of uses but according to WebMD (2), it may be used for respiratory tract disorders such as coughs and bronchitis. It can help with sinus pain, colds, and flu, including swine flu and if applied topically can help with muscle pain however, more evidence is needed to support these claims. Oregano might also be helpful to fight against some bacteria, viruses, fungi, intestinal worms, and other parasites, that’s why it’s always been a staple in our natural medicine cabinet. If the oil of oregano is too powerful, you may want to try olive leaf extract as an alternative option. shop oil of oregano HERE. When you shop products through iherb don't forget to use the following discount code: JES0801 to get 5% OFF your entire order.
Red Pine Needle Oil is another really great option and while expensive it can be micro-dosed more regularly than oil of oregano which will affect your beneficial gut flora if taken for too long considering it has natural antibiotic properties. This is another reason why all-natural antimicrobials should be
taken in conjunction with high-quality probiotics but be sure to take them at least two hours apart from one another so that the natural antimicrobials do not kill off the beneficial bacteria that you are trying to reinoculate the gut with. Red pine needle oil can also be used for a worldwide of other health-related concerns as well as its anti-aging benefits. It is also unique in the sense that it contains two molecular structures naturally, unlike some of the synthetic carbon-based formulas out there like C60 (however C60 does have its place but may be too strong for some). Red pine needle oil naturally contains C10 and the H16 molecule in a rare combination making it a very powerful antioxidant that can offer multiple health benefits. Pine naturally also contains Turpentine which is great for warding off foreign invaders especially in those that suffer from mold-related sickness, parasites, or fungal infections. It also cleans the vascular system, endocrine system, lymphatic and pulmonary system along with all the metabolic pathways which will ultimately boost your Immune system. This will also effectively cleans toxins, parasites, candida, viruses, and bacterial infections from the body. It can gradually help to restore your adrenal functionality with continued use. Some also use it as a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever because it can increase blood flow. Over time it may also help to balance hormones and help the hypothalamus gland, pituitary gland & pineal gland detox from fluorinated water build-up. It offers skin and mental health benefits as well.
4. Regularly consume fermented or probiotic-rich foods
Eating fermented or probiotic-rich foods will help to keep your gut in tip-top shape and strengthen your immune system. The first line of defense against viral and bacterial infections is your own God-given immune system and guess how much of it resides in your gut? A whopping 70% So, keeping those little critters that make up your microbiome happy is essential to building a strong immune system that can ward off unwanted invaders. We eat homemade fermented vegetables almost every day and if they are not readily available, I make sure to supplement with a high-quality soil-based probiotic like the one carried by JustThrive. When you use discount code: HEALINGHANDS you can also take advantage of a 15% OFF special discount which is being exclusively offered to our readers. However, there are some half-decent fermented vegetable options now available at some local health food stores just make sure to look for those that are fermented with live cultures which should be found in the refrigeration section.
5. Consider taking fulvic acid
I like to call Fulvic Acid nature's natural minerals & detoxifier. While some will say any minerals will do, Kevin and I are partial to supplements and herbs that can be found naturally in our environment because mother nature knows best. Fulvic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in oceans, dystrophic lakes, peat, coal, and the soil. When organic matter decomposes, it creates an intricate material. Humic substances like fulvic acid are capable of boosting our ability to absorb nutrients and minerals. It also helps to support our bodies through detoxification from harmful environmental pollutants that can make us more susceptible to infections like heavy metals and even manmade nanotechnologies like graphene as demonstrated here as an antidote to nanotoxicity in seed germination. Some say it can even neutralize EMF radiation, is a powerful electrolyte, can increase energy, while also being a great antimicrobial agent (3) to control pathogens and help to prevent the formation of biofilms (4). 6. Consider taking Cannabis Sativa Hemp seed oil and other foods rich in essential fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals
Supplementing with our hemp seed oil will ensure that your body is never deficient in any of these essential nutrients. Our Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Oil contains 16 essential amino acids, a perfect balance of Omega 3, 6 & 9, plus 15 minerals, most notably magnesium, copper, zinc, and chromium. Chromium, known as GTF, or glucose tolerance factor, facilitates blood sugar regulation. Chromium is also vital in many other ways, and particularly beneficial for stress reduction. It may also improve your mood, is an immune booster, and a great antioxidant. It contains 4X the amount of GLA than in Evening Primrose Oil. A full B Complex including vitamin B12 due to its GLUTEN FREE nutritional yeast content, vitamin D, A, and E. While hemp seed oil on its own can offer a long list of health benefits it is particularly good at reducing inflammation, an important attribute to consider in a whole foods supplement when trying to ward off infections naturally. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which is found in our hemp seed oils is often deficient in the average Western diet but essential for good health and immune function. We now carry Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Oil Gel Caps, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Plus, and Medi-Paws for your fur babies too.
7. Trade in your morning coffee for a warm cup of ginger tea
Ginger and turmeric root have a long list of health benefits but the therapeutic doses of ginger or turmeric which can help to support the liver must be consumed in either powdered form, tinctures, or medicinal teas. These two herbs have been reported to be exceptionally helpful during cold and flu season. Ginger root has been used to help cure colds for more than 5000 years when the ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius discovered its medicinal powers (5). While again boosting your immune system, it can also soothe a sore throat and help to calm a cough.
8. Be sure to get an appropriate amount of healthy sunlight every day while being cautious of your blue light toxicity from cell phones, smart TV's and LED lighting
Turn your devices off after dark or get some Blue Light Blockers, we personally recommend high-end BLUblox or mid-range TruDark lenses. Exposure to too much blue light suppresses your melatonin production making it difficult for you to have a restful night’s sleep which then throws off your circadian biology. In turn, these poor light habits can wreak havoc on all of your biological systems leaving you open and susceptible to contracting numerous bacterial or viral infections. Studies have even shown that toxic levels of blue light also allows certain types of pathogens and yeasts to flourish systemically in the human body leading to a whole host of health conditions if left unaddressed long term.
Getting a sufficient amount of sunlight on bare skin without sunscreen can also help to increase your vitamin D levels naturally. Vitamin D deficiency has been directly linked to the susceptibility to contracting infections but also various forms of cancers. However, living in a cooler climate may make it difficult at times to get a sufficient amount of sun exposure therefore, that is why for those living in a cooler climate or who just don't get outside often enough we often tend to suggest additional supplementation with a good quality vitamin D from a natural source like Supergreens +D by Touchstone Essentials.
9. Be mindful of your EMF exposure which can damage DNA and drain your cells of the much-needed energy to help ward off infections
“It has now been demonstrated in multiple studies that pathogens are affected by wireless communication systems and other types of electromagnetic radiation. Bacteria exposed to mobile phones and Wi-Fi radiation become resistant to antibiotics (6). (see Pubmed (7)) The overuse of antibiotics is definitely a factor as well. The study linked above shows that changing the electromagnetic environment is ALSO a primary contributor to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Wireless technologies also cause the proliferation and multiplication of fungus, yeast, viruses, and mold. (see phys.org (8), Pubmed (9), and another abstract on Pubmed (10)."
So, you can see why Kevin and I take nnEMF pollution so seriously because we don’t believe it would have been possible to heal from our chronic Lyme or autoimmune diseases if we hadn’t. If you are interested in a full in-home EMF inspection or just have a few questions, please feel free to contact us directly. You can also find more information on the specific EMF protection devices that we use ourselves and proudly recommend HERE.
10. Drink structured living water to help flush your system and rehydrate your cells
We now sell and affiliate with three structured water companies. For more information, please
A body that is well hydrated, mineral-rich, and exposed to a balanced light cycle is virtually indestructible and more than likely to ward off unwanted invaders. Furthermore, viruses, bacteria, and pathogens thrive in acidic environments which is all the more reason to consume structured water which is naturally PH balanced, higher in frequencies, energy, and oxygen. Structured water also naturally precipitates foreign substances out of the water such as certain chemical compounds and other unwanted toxins that can contribute to poor water quality, hydration, and health. Living water’s crystalline structure is similar to those found in melted icebergs or natural mountain springs which have been shown to greatly improve hydration and nutrient absorption naturally, while also improving the texture of your skin, hair, detoxification, and other health benefits.
11. Lastly, get a sufficient amount of restorative sleep because sleep helps to repair and renew all systems of the body
The quality of your sleep directly impacts all aspects of your health and even the smallest amount of sleep loss has been shown to lower immunity and if consistent can wreak havoc on both your physical and mental health. Therefore, it is imperative to get an average of 7-9 hours of sleep every night to ensure that your immune system is functioning optimally.
“Myth: Getting just one hour less of sleep per night won’t affect your daytime functioning.
Fact: You may not be noticeably sleepy during the day, but losing even one hour of sleep can affect your ability to think properly and respond quickly. It also compromises your cardiovascular health, energy balance, and ability to fight infections.”
Many run off to the doctor to get their flu shot at the first sign of cold and flu season while ignoring what our immune systems truly need's to help prevent infections. According to the CDC, the overall vaccine effectiveness (VE) of the 2017-2018 flu vaccine against both influenza A and B viruses was only estimated to be 40% effective leaving the other 60% that were vaccinated susceptible to the virus. Also, those numbers are more than likely grossly exaggerated.
“Year after year they have quoted observational studies to announce, “…80% vaccine effectiveness…60% effectiveness…40% effectiveness…” They do not mention that these studies make no effort to look for adverse vaccine effects (e.g. narcolepsy, seizures, high fever, oculorespiratory syndrome) or that, a vaccine “effective” in one season may increase influenza risk in a subsequent season. (Read about “antibody-dependent enhancement” to understand one explanatory mechanism)."
Enhance your immune system naturally by giving your body the appropriate building blocks it needs to function optimally and the common cold and flu will be a thing of the past!
